However, when we just did this for the LA CTO Forum , we created a LinkedIn group so that members could search profiles and created a private Ning community for discussions, events, and communication. Employees definitely need to be coached to not abuse their time at work on things like Facebook. I never took the opportunity in forums in the past to meet members.
