I Believe in the Importance of a Personal Learning Network

When I started using Twitter for my professional growth and development, I didn’t realize that I was also starting to build my personal learning network. I hadn’t yet recognized the value of connectedness , but knew immediately that I was learning from each of these encounters. I had more than a dozen individuals I interacted with regularly, and we would discuss thoughts, ideas, and plans related to one or more aspects of learning and development.

I’ve used examples from the lending assistants as well as other benefits of the tool to demonstrate how its use would benefit the bank and these work groups. One of the things that this group has identified as one of their “problems” is that they receive too many emails.

Informal Learning – the other 80%

Determinism, Best Practice, and the ‘Training Solution’

Determinism is the philosophical idea that every event, including every human decision and action, is the inevitable result of preceding actions and that, given certain conditions, there is only one outcome. Deterministic views of the world assume everything is a jigsaw puzzle rather then a chess game and that for every problem there is a single solution.
