Business applications of Twitter

E-Learning Provocateur

I had the privilege of facilitating one of the breakout sessions, which focused on the business applications of Twitter. We discussed a range of issues around this topic, and we generated some really bright ideas that I feel are worth pursuing in the corporate sector. Some of the ideas specifically relate to e-learning, while others may fall more comfortably into other portfolios. But of course, tweet scanning also falls into the Customer Service portfolio.

27 Books for L&D Folks.

There are many more that can be added to the list but I will keep that for another post…You can see some of them in the picture of my bookshelf above. Some of the might seem out of place in a list for L&D folks, but I think it is important to read around a subject to understand the context, and the emerging patterns. 5 Workplace Learning/Training Social Media for Trainers Jane Bozarth. 20 Web 2.0/SoMe/Collaboration/Workplace learning Enterprise 2.0

Interesting Information via eLearning Learning

Tony Karrer

We've implemented a few features in the eLearning Learning Community. As an example, I can see that eLearning 2.0 relates closely to the concepts Learning 2.0 , eLearning Tools , Corporate eLearning , Personal Learning , and Enterprise 2.0 ; the Tools Odeo , CollectiveX , Bea Pages , Apache Roller , and Dogear ; and the Companies NexLearn , Awareness Networks , Element K , and Mzinga. I've listed a few of the terms that I saw.

Success Formula for Discussion Forums in Financial Services

Tony Karrer

I received a question this week related to Discussion Forums for Knowledge Sharing at Capital City Bank : I successfully launched a discussion forum for a small group of lending assistants within my bank. I’ve used examples from the lending assistants as well as other benefits of the tool to demonstrate how its use would benefit the bank and these work groups. They see the benefit of the tool in a strict learning environment, but have difficulty seeing its use in an expanded role.

Five Must-Have Skills for Learning Professionals: An Update

Mindflash

Fueled by a personal quest to avoid professional stagnation and a desire to see our profession thrive, I’ve tried to write about useful, practical, and value-added ideas that learning professionals can put to use in their work today. In a series of blog posts, I plan to provide further detail on each of the five critical skills that co-author Mitchell Levy and I believe learning professionals can put to use right away. That is when I thought of penning this down for further analysis and to examine the pattern of influence. Understanding Homophily on the Web (Bamboo Project: this blog was also my discovery of 2009) What did I learn: The Internet encourages the coming together of like minds. And unless we are conscious of this phenomenon, we are likely to block out the "Other" voices and worldviews thus restricting our understanding.

I just saw two posts by a couple of the nicest people out there: Nancy White - Most Viewed Posts First Quarter 2009 - What next? Web 2.0 Applications in Learning

Tony Karrer

Last week I presented a session at ASTD TechKnowledge entitled eLearning 2.0 - Applications and Implications. It could just as easily have been called Web 2.0 I discussed a bit of these issues in First Thoughts After ASTD Sessions. I'm writing this post for both attendees of the session to have some notes and for people who were not at the session to hopefully get value from the discussion that happened there. This was more of a prompt than it really was a true survey.

Stream of consciousness

With my immune system compromised and my defenses down, last night I tottered on the edge of the bottomless pit of raw, seething information that is the web. Last night I went online to write a few pages of the Informal Learning 2.0 Soon I had a dozen tabs open on Firefox: a list of corporate social media evangelists, Nature magazine (archives back to 1869!), Like the pioneering Whole Earth Catalog, the Informal Learning 2.0

It’s the biggest frame of the big picture. I don’t use the word learn with executives, who inevitably think back to the awfulness of school and close their ears. The Workscape is a systems-eye view of the workplace. In the same vein, I talk about Working Smarter instead of informal learning, social learning, and so forth. Notes from DevLearn and the Adobe Learning Summit

Following is a largely unedited version of conference notes that I have just distributed internally where I work. As a blog post it’s probably pretty crap – too long, too much scrolling, but as a record of the event, and a method for me to retain my learning, it is just dandy, thank you. Hopefully you, my brave reader, can get similar value from my scribblings, but I make no apology for the size or the content of this blog post. “4 out of 5 Doctors agree.
