Some of them are old, some of them are new. Some are flash-in-the-pan, others stand the test of time and remain applicable to this very day. Some of them are controversial, while others have assumed the aura of conventional wisdom. Some of them are simple, while others are incomprehensible to mere mortals. Taxonomy. To clear some of the obfuscation that surrounds learning theory, I have developed the following Taxonomy of Learning Theories.

Taking issue with it in his blogpost he says: "A folksonomy loses its qualities as a folksonomy once you have someone 'organising' it, and will quickly become a taxonomy." Then @3quarks said my definition of folksonomist sounded a little like a 'spin doctor'.

I think the whole e-learning space has gone through an evolution in the last 4-5 years, and we've created a four-stage taxonomy to describe it ( www.bersin.com/stages ). And yes, e-learning does reduce the cost per delivery of instructional hour. In stage 2 ( Expansion ) organizations expand, they build lots of custom programs (beyond the typical catalog content) and start implementing blended programs. I feel a need to chime in.

About 27% of instructional designers have an advanced degree in ID. And 73% of us dont. Only 11% of instructional designers without an ID degree have reported that they were denied work due to the lack thereof. As reported earlier , there continues to be a wide range of backgrounds for IDers, mostly in the liberal arts. I have questions: Is this a good representation of the field in general? I focused on Communities of Practice and learned quite a bit.
