Originally a counterpoint to the institutional Managed Learning Environment (iMLE or 'VLE'), PLEs are becoming a much talked about concept, and were the prime focus of the recently held PLE Conference in Cornella, Barcelona. This continues the discussion being had around PLE/PWLEs - see More Discussion on Personal Work Learning Environments for a bit of recap. Clearly this is a different use of PLE's than those outside the firewall, for free rangers, and for learning from everything of personal interest. And they are not, therefore, PLEs.

First off, I have to say that this entire PLE conversation hasnt really sparked much for me. Maybe it was even "personal learning" before the term PLE came along. I dont see a traditional corporation every truly embracing the theme of PLE -- at least in the pure sense of the term "personal". It just seems like a no-duh.

At the VLE is Dead symposium , there was an issue over the term PLE (Personal Learning Environment). Some people objected to it being named as such, because they argue, the PLE is not a 'thing', but a concept or more accurately a counterpoint in the discourse of the VLE. Rebranding in companies is one thing. representation.
