“Compliance Training Made Easy” Webinar Explores Best Practices and Building a Culture of Compliance

Last week, Litmos held a live virtual event, “Compliance Training Made Easy,” in which panelists Pam Ramsbott (Director of Global Talent Management, Litmos) and Emilee Johnson (VP of Corporate Enablement & Global Sales, Celigo) discussed how to create a culture of compliance through continuous training, how to “go beyond the checkbox” when building a compliance program, and best practices for building a more effective compliance training.

During the presentation, Ramsbott highlighted the importance of compliance training for any organization and explained why compliance doesn’t have to be a daunting task. She encouraged attendees to make compliance training more than a compulsory “checkbox” activity, and advocated for integrating compliance training into the culture of their organizations.

Johnson joined Ramsbott for the second half of the webinar, to share her experience at Celigo. As a Litmos customer, Celigo has built a successful compliance training program. Johnson discussed the way her team’s strategy for building compliance training, and how they have leveraged Litmos’ Learning Management System (LMS) to launch pre-built and custom compliance courses, integrate trainings into their tech stack, and leverage dynamic reporting for better accountability.

Addressing common compliance training challenges

In a live audience poll, 48% of attendees cited lack of employee and manager engagement as a top challenge for compliance training. Other challenges that Ramsbott addressed during the webinar included insufficient reporting, limited implementation resources, and lack of training consistency.

The potential solutions and strategies that Ramsbott and Johnson proposed for improving employee and manager engagement included consistent and continuous training, gamification, and more relevant and accessible content. Since 50% of attendees reported prioritizing consistency as a best practice for their organization, Johnson went into some detail about the benefits that Celigo has seen from applying this best practice in their compliance training approach. “We do compliance training pretty consistently within our organization,” Johnson explained. “Employees really expect it. It’s coming. It’s something that they know that happens, and that consistency really can build trust within your workforce.”

For increasing engagement, Ramsbott also argued that building relevant and goal-oriented compliance training is key. “If we’ve got organizational goals and we’ve got learning goals and objectives, it’s helpful for the learner to understand what’s in it for them. Why are they doing it? What are they going to gain?”

Leveraging reporting to improve compliance processes

Ramsbott and Johnson also highlighted the importance of regular reporting and making managers accountable for their teams’ compliance training completion, noting that the right LMS can offer tools that help teams reinforce accountability and automate critical processes.

In discussing how Celigo uses Litmos’ custom reports, Johnson explained, “When we do go into an audit, instead of kind of tracking down all the different spreadsheets… we send it to the auditing firm and that’s it. It just takes care of itself in a matter of minutes.”

Johnson’s discussion about custom reports also demonstrated the impact that quality reporting can have on leadership buy-in, according to Ramsbott. “At the executive level, Emilee is able to provide that reporting.” Referring to the executive leadership at Celigo, Rambsbott added, “They’re looking, and they care, and they’re invested in it. And when you have sponsorship across that level of leadership within the organization, the reporting matters.”

The webinar concluded with a live Q&A session, where Litmos’ Director of Product Marketing, Christie Bacchus provided more details about the global library of compliance course available to Litmos users, as well as the leaderboard and badging features that Litmos users can leverage to drive engagement.
