What is WCAG Compliance?

WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) Compliance refers to a set of internationally recognized standards developed by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to ensure that web content is accessible to people with disabilities.

These guidelines are essential for making digital content, such as websites and web applications, usable by individuals with diverse impairments, including those related to vision, hearing, motor skills, and cognitive abilities. WCAG Compliance helps developers and designers create web content that can be navigated, understood, and interacted with by a wide range of users, regardless of their disabilities, promoting inclusivity and equal access to information and services on the internet.

What are the WCAG 2.0 guidelines?

    • Time-Based Media (1.2): Ensure that multimedia content, like audio and video, has captions and alternative means of access.
    • Adaptable (1.3): Create content that can be presented in various ways without losing its meaning or structure.
    • Distinguishable (1.4): Ensure that text and images have sufficient contrast, and that content is easy to perceive and differentiate.
  2. Operable:
    • Keyboard Accessible (2.1): Ensure that all functionality is available via keyboard navigation, as some users cannot use a mouse.
    • Enough Time (2.2): Provide users with enough time to read and use content and give them control over time-dependent actions.
    • Seizures and Physical Reactions (2.3): Avoid content that could cause seizures or physical discomfort due to flickering or rapid flashing.
  3. Understandable:
    • Readable (3.1): Create clear and easily understandable text and content structure.
    • Predictable (3.2): Make webpages and applications behave in a consistent and predictable manner.
    • Input Assistance (3.3): Help users avoid and correct errors by providing meaningful feedback and guidance.
  4. Robust:
    • Compatibility (4.1): Ensure that content is compatible with current and future user agents, including assistive technologies.
