A lot of talks of showing product, discussing deals, scheduling future meetings. Before diving into the conference itself, for those who are unaware, I have signed a book deal with ATD Publishing. . But trust me when I tell you this, that it has no bearing on my thoughts of this year’s conference, because overall it was the best one ATD wise that is, I have ever been to. Better organization of the conference – the Universal Studio thing was very cool – Big Win! On the last day at the conference, they served pizza with cheese.

ASAE Tech Conference 2014: A Recap

Last month, I attended ASAE’s Technology Conference and Expo 2014 , held outside of Washington. There was even a scheduled “Provocative Discussion.” They had deployed 267 “beacons” that were scattered throughout the conference hall and session rooms.

In particular, he laments that as he was reading a discussion in a different domain and "working on the team picking out sessions for the 2007 ASTD conference " he found himself wanting to have better discussion and debate in our world of learning. Actually, I think that maybe FOO Camp and Bar Camp aren't quite the right format, but having the kind of dialog that occurs at unconferences is definitely needed at corporate learning conferences, e.g., ASTD, Training, etc.

Flipped Learning Increases the Value of Conference Education

Everyone knows that sitting in an audience listening passively to a speaker is not an effective way for adults to learn, yet that’s still the norm at many conferences and educational events. With flipped learning, the student learns about something first through assigned reading or videos, and then puts that knowledge to work in the classroom through group exercises, case studies, role-playing, problem-solving, or facilitated discussions.
