LMS Ghost stories – The truth will scare you

But what you rarely hear, is something I have often been hearing, which isn’t going from any spirit, rather it is coming from some LMS vendors. It is a sound so unbearable, a phrase or two so strange and misleading, you would think you were hearing it from… the salesperson’s mouth (or via e-mail). Any vendor who sees you as a potential customer, should go to your web site and grab the banner/header or colors and place it in your demo before you begin.

Psst. You wanna buy some features?

LMS vendors are continuing to add some very unique features in an effort to set themselves apart from the competition. You don’t have to go to funkytown to see some feature sets that put the “WoW” back into learning. Built in E-mail that blocks viruses, spam plus you can send out of the LMS. Desktop sharing (appears with a few vendors). e-book publishing. Section 508 (still shocking at the lack of vendors that fail to offer this feature).

Start searching out LMS vendors that meet the list criteria, specifically the ones you must have/otherwise they are deal breakers. Example: Social Learning. Type “Social learning LMS&# in your search engine or “Social Learning&# in your search engine and start going into the pages and not just looking at page one. Once you identify your LMS potentials, you can create a RFP or RFI with specific details you need and additional information on the company, etc.
