A good vendor will take that information and apply it to your demo (you want one), inquire for additional questions if needed – after they have had time to review it – post-call; and most importantly as a cornerstone to your pricing. Previously, before a multitude of specialized solutions burst onto the landscape, LMS choices were limited to a handful of “one-size-fits-all” vendors. It happens at least once a week.

LMS vendors are continuing to add some very unique features in an effort to set themselves apart from the competition. Desktop sharing (appears with a few vendors). Section 508 (still shocking at the lack of vendors that fail to offer this feature). more common is partnering with a web conferencing vendor). Branding – the only difference is some vendors still charge for this – my question: why? Guess what some vendors do.

Can you recommend an LMS?

Vendors saying “have you looked at XYZ” (which is their system). plus all the vendors will be found in FindAnLMS), I do have systems I can recommend based on various criteria. Yet, as I have often noted, it is rarely pushed upon in an RFP, let alone a demo. Folks seem fine with the vendor noting how awesome their support is, without extracting any metrics or verifiable data. . And I ask it often when talking to vendors.

Not every vendor offered them, but more than enough did and consumers liked that. In the good ol’ days vendors listed trials on their web sites OR if you liked what you saw in the demo, you asked them via the phone or e-mail for a trial. For the vendor, it was a potential win, way better than no one reaching out to them at all. The vendor then followed up with you, because they had your e-mail address. Workforce management is vague and ambiguous enough to do well in 2020, albeit for learning it would seem to me that workforce enlightenment would be better suited, unless you plan to incorporate additional HCM functions into your learning system, which of course, will place you completely into the segment of SuccessFactors, Cornerstone, SumTotal, Saba Cloud, Talentsoft among others. I know of vendors who tell me they are not in the content business. I love forecasts.

What is an LXP and why do I want one?

These two vendors are EdCast and Degreed. Getting back to being unaware, I find the same issue with a few vendors in the learning system space who are really LXPs, but have no idea. It reminded me of the vendors in the space who scream they are not an LMS, even though they hit all the standards of an LMS. . The difference here though, is that those two vendors specifically, really had ZERO idea where they slid into. It appears as a cornerstone in the LXP market.

Trends at the show – vendor wise, some real surprises, some not. . As I hit the floor, I saw only a couple of vendors. . There were vendors on the video angle, but again it was not a “hot scene” vendor wise. Missed opportunity for a lot of vendors in the video arena. .
