Bloggers and Twitterati are self-evident social media fans, so it’s to be expected that some of them will adopt an evangelical view of the role of Web 2.0 Drawing all this down to the less heady world of e-learning, I can certainly see a parallel. It’s important to recognise the role of social media in facilitating social learning in the workplace. Put it this way: learning would still happen in the workplace if social media did not exist. web 2.0

I don’t think it’s the best tool out there, but it likely is the best tool being adopted by your IT department and is part of the Enterprise 2.0 My belief is that it’s going to be a big part of eLearning 2.0 for many workplace learning professionals. Jay tells us: Performance support is blossoming in organizations today under the label of Web 2.0. That’s how we use Google and corporate wikis and instant messenger. Learnscape architects have implemented miniature versions of the internet behind corporate firewalls that provide all of these things, from peer-rated FAQs to wizards, on-line help desks, and best practices repositories. Working Smarter in Social Business

You have to be learning continuously to deal with the onslaught of unfamiliar, complex problems. There’s no longer time to learn things in advance; you have to learn what you need in real time. Leaving work to go learn something is not an option. Learning and work are fusing into a single process. To be successful, a social business’s learning function must break out of the training department and spread throughout the organizational infrastructure.

Through the Workscape Looking Glass

Learning Ecosystem, Learning Ecology, and Learnscape mean the same thing as Workscape. I don’t use the word learn with executives, who inevitably think back to the awfulness of school and close their ears. In the same vein, I talk about Working Smarter instead of informal learning, social learning, and so forth. Some people denigrate informal learning but nobody’s against Working Smarter. We must nurture the Workscape or face corporate meltdown.
