Assessment tools including Online Testing Tools (even online proctoring) (ProProfs, ClassMarker, Questionmark). I wish there was transparency on this, but in every release or announcement of this spin, there has yet to be mention that the 3rd party courses/content is not free, and a separate cost. I’ve seen courses that cost over 100K to build, and they come out as garbage. It’s that time of the year.

A: I’m split on the fence with standalone assessment tools (example: Questionmark). One area to note – unless you purchase the “Enterprise” edition, “gamification”, “classroom management”, “white labeling” and a few others are not included – separate cost.

Questionmark has an iPad and iPhone app, but for whatever reason, if you type in “quiz&# or “assessment&# , they do not show up. But what about cost? As I write on my iPad, thoughts swirl abound. With all these vendors talking about their solution and its capabilities on mobile devices, it should be easy to find an app for that. Regardless if the vendor is m-learning specific, content authoring tool, LMS, web conferencing or a hybrid. It shouldn’t matter.

Questionmark. Their small business one, frankly was stripped down and basic and not worth the cost. I was planning on writing about emerging technology and virtual worlds. However, with ASTD’s TechKnowledge 2011, starting next week, I’m going to hold off until after TK11, to write on virtual worlds. What I like about conferences is the ability to see the latest products and hear the pitches from the vendors.
