20 eLab - The user interface is intriguing and enables anyone to build a course, without having the typical “ooh that looks so lame” with some rapid content authoring tools. Of course it can still look lame – the course that is – but that isn’t because of the product, rather umm (well you know who).

The downside, is that real value of WBT is that the end user can go into the course as often as they want and as many as times as they want. Of course, if the end user does not have the “approval requests&# ability, it is not visible. Too many vendors (inc. A number of the items is listed by each color (if applicable).

Features include: branching, assessment tool, convert slide notes to computer-generated audio via text-to-speech converter (11 voices/accents according to Brainshark), skinned, send links to access courses via social media, output to MP4, certificates and SCORM. Lectora on the list? Mobile comes via MP4, but no Tin Can support.

The collaboration – enabling instructional designers or every day folk to work on a course or courses together, is smart. The ability to offer the additional feature, so that SMEs or higher ups can review or take a glance at the courses whenever, is equally smart. Mobile Learning. Hmm, oh yeah mobile learning.

Lectora’s Snap! Lectora Snap! Channel – of course if your company blocks all social media sites – I guess you are hitting the Snap! Of course not, but now I am. Lectora compares this product to Articulate Engage and frankly I think that is a mistake. who knows, I never got to see it).

Vendors who added innovative features including text to speech (way to go SoftChalk), to true HTML5 support (Claro, Cm-Studio, Rapid Intake, Toolbook and sort of HTML5 output – Lectora) to image editors, SDK kits, gaming sims and Sony PSP devices. There is no quid pro quo for the vendors. One more Cheers!
