Someone came up with the idea to create templates for developing courses quickly – and no, it wasn’t someone from Adobe or Articulate. I was using DazzlerMax and Authorware, which are superior offerings for creating courses. Adobe was the first vendor to use templates to create courses. At the time, I hated it.

Most of it came, via 3rd party providers, or what we referred to as “boutique shops” – think custom development (fee-based) that someone, company, government, institution, and so forth hired to create a course or courses. Could someone create a course at said company? Wanted people to buy your courses you created?

Ditto on the 3rd party content, including one vendor who figured out how to create a video with bookmarks and chapters that streamed without issue on a 56K modem. Sadly, Sadly, one day I called, they were out of business, sold to the nefarious NetG – who likely placed them in a huge warehouse next to the remains of a famous pharaoh.
