Expectations From eLearning Authoring Tools

Upside Learning

I came across this mind map by Cammy Bean which covers nearly all the tools available for creating/authoring eLearning content. While some try doing freeform authoring through a template-based authoring tool. Should be able to import/export content (like PPT, DOC, or simple HTML), and allow for edits after import. Should be able to import external Flash SWF as well as audio and video in variety of popular formats.

Articulate ’09: Tips for Resolving Common Issues

Upside Learning

Missing lines in graphs - The PPT graphs sometimes don’t convert properly to Flash, leading to missing lines. In this case, try setting the player template display at an optimal level and avoid scaling (this worked most of the times for us). Font styles - At times, ‘bold’ or ‘italics’ text in the PPT doesn’t appear the same way after publishing in Articulate. Solution: You can avoid inconsistent indents by adding the bulleted text in a separate text box in the PPT.

LMS Review: Litmos

Creating courses and training plans is easy. The admin interface makes it self-explanatory to create content with built-in tools or by importing existing content files. You can combine these with LMS-generated content such as assessments, surveys, OJT assignments, HTML pages or instructor-led events to create courses and learning paths. In other words, if a course has six language localizations, you would need to create six unique courses that are not interrelated.

Adobe shows off Captivate 4 and the Adobe eLearning Suite

Steve Howard

Thankfully the wonderful Adobe engineers have been able to plug this gap in Captivate, allowing us to now create clean vector shapes in our projects. It has long been known that we can add Flash video and interactive swf content into Captivate, but doing so is not as simple as we would like, and there is no easy way to communicate data between the imported content and the host Captivate movie. Captivate 4 introduces Project Templates.
