Vendors push it still for learning and training. Regardless of it is a course standard or not.

That’s often a mistake. Many eLearning vendors create content that is not LMS-agnostic. Vendors whose eLearning content complies with all versions of industry standards and has been tested on multiple LMS platforms can escape many of these problems. What I can say is that CMI-5 expresses learner activity using xAPI, which gives systems a consistent way to express the things people do. For some, that’s a reasonable and calculated choice.
