In the summer it is an oven, with the sun reflecting intensely off the stones and sand, and in the winter it is icy cold as the southern Antarctic winds whip across it mercilessly. It truly was learning against all odds - lifelong learning in the truest sense, and in the harshest of environments. It was their personal triumph too.
