In the summer it is an oven, with the sun reflecting intensely off the stones and sand, and in the winter it is icy cold as the southern Antarctic winds whip across it mercilessly. We were shown around by one of the official guides on the island - a contemporary of Nelson Mandela, and fellow prisoner - Lionel Davis (pictured with me above).

Content as curriculum?

I was taught in school that there are nine planets orbiting the sun. When will we begin to realise that all subjects have overlaps and commonalities, and children need to understand these overlaps to obtain a clear and full picture of their world. Is it Myanmar or Burma? I was told by my geography teacher it was Burma.

What was even better, was that they were back to back and in the same area of beautiful Oeiras, near Lisbon (this is a picture I took of the Palace of the Marquis de Pombal, the venue we met in). It is a beautiful city - the kind that glistens in the sun, captivating your senses wherever you go within in. Continues tomorrow.
