Illogical – I often see systems that add features that seem as though they tossed a bunch of ideas on a wall and whatever stuck up there, went into their platform. Part of this reasoning, is tied to size of customer base. . While this is understandable, they forget that they are in the business to land new customers too.

This trend is one of the worst in our industry and while not every vendor does this unscrupulous approach – with the appearance of worldwide dominance (even if they just have a sales office there and no clients), there are enough vendors who do this that it serves as a disservice to potential customers.

You can try to figure out about the product via the company’s web site, but many sites honestly are beyond awful. They fail to even clearly show their product, let alone present the product sans the standard PPT intro that comes with “learn more” about the solution. Right product? 90 minutes.

As a potential customer, selecting a system quickly, based on specific features is long gone. Unless the vendor specifically says that their solution is available only for education/academia or specifically for education/academia, then people have no idea.
