The product is Flash based, which is nice, but lack of mobile optimization for the iPad.

Content as a Service

Xyleme

As instructional designers, we create our learning products, package them up with all the content and media, wish them well, and ship them off to the LMS’s – never to be seen again. And the possibilities for highly specialized apps for learning, performance support, and content mash-ups is nearly unlimited. Mash-ups and on-demand publishing. For better or worse, the development of learning content has been a one-way push process.

Mashups change work’s traditional linear and separate roles into a culture of co-production, co-design, and co-development, mixing responsibilities among everyone involved in a new cyclical process.

Vendors were saying, lets “wait on those&# or “our customers are not requesting them, so we are holding off&#. Again, our customers aren’t asking for it, so we are just doing enough to appear that we are cutting edge. eLearning 24-7

Revenues across the board are up, profit margins are healthy and competition is on-going (always a good thing). Illogical – I often see systems that add features that seem as though they tossed a bunch of ideas on a wall and whatever stuck up there, went into their platform. Miss Targeted – A frequent guest, whereas they add features or enhancements that do not target their current customer base or future -example: they include corporate yet include rubrics.

Designing for an uncertain world

Clark Quinn

Our products and services are more complex, and yet we need a more seamless execution. For example trying to debug problems between hardware device and network service provider, and if you’re trying to provide a total customer experience, the old “it’s the other guy’s fault&# just isn’t going to cut it. My problem with the formal models of instructional design (e.g. ADDIE for process), is that most are based upon a flawed premise.

Latest E-Learning Trends – Some good, some bad

eLearning 24-7

So, how about this for a twist: Increase in Revenue, boost in numbers but for some vendors, the gain is in actuality a negative because their current and potential new customers suffer. Unhappy current customers. I am seeing many vendors whose products were built for SMB (and more aligned on the lower side of mid size companies) who are now pushing into the mid/upper mid to large size customer band. The product suffers from lots of bugs after the last update.

E-Learning without Borders

When so many potential customers are seeing the advantages of open source, creating their own learning or VLE portals or seeing the value of various social media types and incorporating them into some type of social learning community, the “do nothing&# spin is well, a time warp into the past.
