I’ll be the first to admit, that I was not a big fan of the previous versions of the Plateau system. After viewing the Plateau TMS, my concerns in one area have been eliminated, in others, not so much. Plateau LMS is a Talent Management System, made up of four modules. Plateau Learning. Plateau Performance. Plateau Career and Succession. Plateau Compensation. Front end (what the end user sees) UI – A giant Kudos to Plateau.

A lot of great products out there this year, new updates and latest versions; new companies, new services and just some real innovation. Big Dog (Saba, SumTotal, Plateau, Cornerstone OnDemand, Learn.com). Learn.com offered some robust SL capabilities, but you have to pay for one of their premium versions to have it. You want the LSP version. But the key here is you have to purchase the “full version&# and not “lite&#. LMS Products of the Year 2010.

SuccessFactors – Just for those folks to remember, SF is owned by SAP and had acquired Plateau. They haven’t been Plateau for a few years, so stop calling them Plateau – a pet peeve of mine. D2L has an Enterprise version, I wouldn’t use it, I get why they are jumping into Corporate, hint it has to do with money (potential). If I am a vendor who does not accept customers who have less than 2,500 for example, my response is unavailable or N/A.

You will always find products that are not well known yet receive rave reviews or “best buy” How many times do you go into your local supermarket and compare the generic version X to the brand name? Plateau is long gone and buried and people should realize that. A few years back I had a call with Saba and in the call they told me that 63% of their customers were using their platform as a talent and performance management system and not as a LMS.

Custom domain option. Support is fantastic and what I have found is they really care about their customers, a rarity in today’s space. I’ve never heard them say, “nope, we can’t do that” From a customer standpoint – that’s awesome.

The challenge though is that there are customers who have no desire and zero interest to use or have a TM in their system. Even if it is integrated at no additional charge, there are customers who will never use it. Continued increase in the number of vendors, regardless of size or target customer size (i.e They see an opportunity in the SMB space where customers may not want to purchase an ERP for HR or a full blown HRIS and then purchase or have a LMS.

One competitor purchased a VLP as a key component, SAP purchased SuccessFactors, a recruiting system initially turned HCM, who had acquired Plateau, a strong but awful UI/UX LMS. Happy Holidays! Seriously, happy holidays to all.
