TechKnowledge 2012 – Post Assessment

eLearning 24-7

This was my third TK in a row to attend, and as usual it contained some WOW on the part of some products, some “huh” on others and even a few “boos” Overall Expo Analysis. More vendors showing off their products then in the past – still a couple believe that a poster board will do the trick. Significant increase in custom development shops – the most I have seen ever at TK12. Product Time. Yowsa Product.

The product comes in two flavors – a simple and a more robust. Comes with App store and gadget store , where you can download and install into your product – the apps are like objects created by them and others, and gadgets are widget like things – them and end users; oh the majority are free, but if as an end user created one and wanted to sell it – you could. E-Learning Trade Shows + Product Reviews 4 #TK11

eLearning 24-7

However, with ASTD’s TechKnowledge 2011, starting next week, I’m going to hold off until after TK11, to write on virtual worlds. What I like about conferences is the ability to see the latest products and hear the pitches from the vendors. Demonstrations are crucial, whether it is a 30 minute one, with an audience or one on one, with a potential customer. Regardless, you need to have your product out and showing. TK 11 Products.

Customer Complaints, How to Avoid the Traps

eLearning 24-7

When it comes to the e-learning market, specifically the LMS space (and you can toss in LCMS, CMS, Learning Portals as well), there are a lot of traps that customers fall into and can’t get out. Sometimes it is a result of the vendor, other times it is a failure of due diligence on the part of the soon to be customer. Do you listen to your customers? What products are they using? any E-Learning product. Even if it is multiple customers; same thing.

Trade Show Wars

eLearning 24-7

The first segment is for buyers, potential and current customers. I check out the giveaways (hey, at least I’m honest) and gauge if the vendor has a demo or just a CD/DVD with their product – for you to take back with you to your room. If I see folks who are chatting amongst themselves, I do not even enter, because they aren’t interested in me as a potential customer – they are interested in themselves.

Tech Knowledge: LMS – What were they Thinking? Notes on the Go

eLearning 24-7

If you are attending TechKnowledge, you will surely figure out the vendor if you are walking around and talking to vendors. The vendor explained that their customers did not want to make the change, because it would be difficult or confusing to re-learn. Okay, but think this way: If you are a new customer during that time frame, you wouldn’t know regarding the past.
