Several years ago we engaged a vendor to create three eLearning modules for a new product launch. When I went back to the product marketing team with the request for budget to re-engage the vendor, they were less than enthusiastic. I’ve expanded to using Toolbook and other software. What are some of your favorite tools?

Seems to show a level of customer service we have all come to expect when testing something or trying it out before we buy it. Why are some vendors treating you as a spy or something sinister when you just want to try out the product? Quicklessons – while they do offer a free version, the product most folks will buy they do not.

The weapons including Authorware, Macromedia Director, DazzlerMax, Toolbook were the ones that separated the knights from the common folk. The dragon whose name was known only as Studio, seemed destined to fall by the way side, after all, the knights of ID would never use such product. But this dragon was no ordinary dragon.

The world of authoring tools started at the advanced level, Authorware, Toolbook and to an extent DazzlerMax. Products like Captive, Claro, Lectora and Storyline enabled the ID folks to create robust courses. I know plenty of people who work in custom development at places who use these products. Lectora Online .

I learned Toolbook and Authorware on my own while in the program. I was one of the few in my program that had media production, programming, graphics design, and web skills. We cater to local customers and accept international projects. The degree opens many doors but thats about it. Nothing I learned is actually applied today.

Vendors who added innovative features including text to speech (way to go SoftChalk), to true HTML5 support (Claro, Cm-Studio, Rapid Intake, Toolbook and sort of HTML5 output – Lectora) to image editors, SDK kits, gaming sims and Sony PSP devices. Free widgets, plug-ins and apps for customers to use with their product(s).
