White label and e-commerce: how to set up your eLearning platform for customers

eLearning - Published August 28, 2020

Do you have learning contents that you want to distribute as complete courses? Do you want to help your customers along with specialized knowledge in eLearning format? Read here how to tailor your eLearning platform: from user groups, to academy branding (including white label), and to e-commerce functions.

Every eLearning project starts with the creation of courses, for example by converting a PowerPoint file. We advise you to create your courses in so-called “blueprint” academies. The benefit: These templates create the basis for your pieces of training and can be adjusted to the individual needs of your customers if needed. To provide eLearning courses for your customers, there are various distribution options to choose from, which we will explore in more detail in the following sections:

  1. User groups according to customers
  2. Separate academies for customers
  3. e-commerce

1. Sort user groups according to customers

When selling courses to multiple customers, the number of participants in one academy can increase quickly, which makes it hard not to lose track. Dividing participants up into groups can be of effective help here. And this is how it’s done:

Set labels according to user groups. We advise either separating groups by field of activity (e.g. sales or marketing), or creating separate groups for each customer.

These compiled user groups result in advantages when it comes to reporting: when participants are allocated to different groups per customer, it should be easy to create a full report. Here, extensive filters allow for individual adjustments to the reported results. For example, you could filter for single courses, learning steps, specific months, the compiled customer groups, or even single participants. By choosing the desired report – performance in courses, of all participants, in single learning steps or the general course traffic – reports of learning outcomes are quickly created without much effort. Now, your results can easily be provided to your customer.

As an alternative to user groups, you can duplicate a course and then only invite participants belonging to one customer. This way, only one group of participants is part of the course from the start. The customer’s team manager for example – if assigned the trainer rights for this new course – will now be able to create reports for this specific course.

If you want to make further adjustments for different customers, separate customer academies might be a good solution, as the next section will show.

2. Separate academies for customers

Separate academies per customer ensure clarity and clear boundaries between participants. This guarantees that participants’ activities are only visible to the respective customer – with the appropriate authorizations within the academy. A different customer does not have access to this academy and, therefore neither to participants’ activities.

To avoid creating one course from scratch for each academy over and over again, there is a simple solution: import finalized courses to separately created customer academies.

Using the branding options, you can adjust multiple things concerning the look & feel of the academy, so that you can sell courses with the respective branding of your customers. These options include coloring, wallpapers, and course cover to name a few examples. Your customer’s participants will feel right at home in the academy this way.

Individual adjustments for your customers however do not have to be restricted to design. Formalities can be adjusted as well; these include academy pages, which list rights of use, the academy’s URL (the so-called “white label” function), and, of course, content: adding single learning steps aimed at the customer’s needs is done with a few clicks. Texts can easily be adjusted, illustrations or videos exchanged or appended. Changes on content are made directly online, letting participants always work with the most recent version.

3. e-commerce

In addition to the aforementioned possibilities of user groups and separate academies, you also have the option to offer courses on a payment basis. Courses will then be accessible after a fee has been paid. Set up the e-commerce function in your academy and then set an amount to be paid for each course. You can let your customers decide on the payment method, e.g. PayPal or SOFORT bank transfer.

This option is particularly suitable for single customers as the administration of registrations will be automatically carried out by the eLearning software once the payment has been received. For larger customers like companies, the solutions user groups and separate academies are more likely to be suitable.
