My list is divided into personal learning and course design/development. Diigo is my social bookmarking option. Diigo automatically generates my ID and e-Learning bookmarks posts. Course Design/Development. Although my primary freelance work is designing courses, I do some LMS consulting as well.

Diigo is my social bookmarking option. I also back up bookmarks to Delicious, but especially after the disastrous transition to AVOS (a third of my bookmarks didn’t survive the migration), I’m so glad I don’t rely on Delicious as a primary tool. Course Development.

Distance learning can be an alternative, but it often lacks structure and routine since distant learning applications aren’t designed to enable on-demand support. Additionally, social media can be an excellent resource for finding information on best practices or connecting with other professionals in your field.

A current example is a large software training effort I am designing that takes advantage of blending technologies and approaches. Believe it or not, this training program will incorporate the following: A web-based training (WBT) course that incorporates QR Codes and social bookmarking in addition to simulations, instruction and job aids.

Social learning refers to a class of learning, which includes wikis, blogs, screen sharing, podcasting, photo sharing, social bookmarking, collaborative working, social networking, etc. Social learning (small S, small L) does not refer to the use of social media in top-down, formal learning.

Give staff easily accessible avenues to getting over the wall like links to social bookmarks that contain well organized, tagged, learning opportunities. In the 1990s, constructivism heralded a new dawn in instructional design, turbo-charged by the rise of Web 2.0. However, I think the diagram misleadingly suggests an evolution of instructional design. Why, in the midst of ever-advancing learning theory and progressive instructional design, does such rampant instructivism persist?

My response went something like this: We wouldn’t expect a layman to design a bridge given an IKEA set of instructions. Those who know how to design instruction soundly are the ‘engineers.’ They are, by design, built around limiting theories. Social bookmarking was on its own server.
