Friday Finds: The Best of Learning, Design & Technology | September 27, 2019

Sometimes you win, and sometimes you learn

It was a lot of fun to be part of Robin Petterd’s Learning While Working Virtual Conference this week. This second edition was even bigger and better than the first. A huge thank you to Robin for inviting me and everyone behind the scenes who make it all happen. Watch this space and I’ll let you know when the recordings are available. I know I’ll be digging into several of those! Until then, here are this week’s finds from the Learning, Design & Technology world.

Thanks for reading! If you find anything good, forward it to a friend or spread the word with a tweet.

Its Time to Introduce ILT 2.0

I agree with Bob Mosher (@bmosh) that instructor-led classroom training can be a valuable part of a learning program and also that it can often be poorly or improperly implemented. Drop-in and see what Bob has to say about taking a hard look at the existing, instructionally broken ILT model and three things to change for ILT 2.0 to be actualized.

Advice from Experienced Learning Professionals for Anyone Creating Training

Many of us, whether we consider ourselves, trainers or instructional designers or not, will be asked to create training. It’s a part of many of our jobs and functions, yet, there’s more to it than just putting together a PowerPoint presentation. If that sounds like you check out this advice from 14 experienced learning pros.

Say hello to Presenter Coach, PowerPoint’s new AI-powered tool which will help you nail your next presentation

Microsoft has revealed a whole host of new intelligent AI-powered PowerPoint features including Presenter Coach – a new feature which will train you to improve your presentation and public speaking skills. Presenter Coach lets you enter rehearsal mode, providing on-screen guidance for pacing, inclusive language, use of profanity, filler words and culturally insensitive phrases. At the end of each session, a detailed report with metrics for additional practice is also provided.

Private or Incognito Browsing

I’ve been a huge fan of Common Craft videos for a long, long time. If you aren’t hip to the incognito feature of your web browser you need to stop what you’re doin’ and watch this one. I use this a lot and once you know about it you probably will too! Incognito mode is great for testing file share links among others. (If you already know this one, share it with your friends – they probably don’t)
