At one point I ordered up a truly engaging interactive and the developer with whom I worked finally resorted to a mash up of Flash squeezed into an Articulate shell to create the most creative piece to come out of the that shop. I harbor a patent dislike for packaged authoring tools like Articulate.

I love a good mash-up. It's a digital age version of synthesis. But a mash-up takes several ideas, formats or sources and places them together in a new form, to say something new. Actually, that's a little misleading - synthesis is a skill required by academics and scholars, whether technology is present or not.
