This year alone, we attended ATD Techknowledge (recap here ), Learning Solutions (recap here ), the Lectora User Conference (recap here ), and the ATD International Conference & Expo. Unlike other conferences, many of the topics discussed at mLearnCon felt very experimental. Overall, the conference and the topics discussed felt new, exciting, and ready to discovery. I was thrilled to walk away from the Wisetail Award, which is handpicked by the event sponsor.

In a recent article 3 Instructional Design Strategies For Virtual Reality Learning , I discussed three (among many) instructional design strategies for VR: Conceptual Orienteering, Critical Incident and Operational Application. The book provides a model called 3DLE which builds from 3D sensibilities in VR (like sense of self and sense of space) to design principles (discussed here) with several instructional strategies and overall macrostructures sandwiched in the middle.

It was our way of coming together once a week, curating the best learning technology articles from around the web, and holding a thirty minute discussion on Twitter. We shared our learnings at various events such as a panel discussion for our local ASTD chapter and an online forum for the eLearning Guild. You can do this in Lectora, too, but I think it’s easier in Storyline.

This week I attended my first DevLearn, and as hyped as it was in the months prior to the event, it did not disappoint. DevLearn is one of the largest events in the learning industry; according to the conference website, 1,747 people registered for the event. The session ended with a very useful group discussion on everyone’s favorite learning-related iPad apps.

If you intend on being in this industry in the next five years, my guess is your company will either lead the way in social learning events, or you’ll be the one asked why your company is not participating yet.
