Action map: For mapping, I use Compendium , which lets you paste text, PowerPoint slides, PDFs, and web sites in the map. This makes it easy to locate the relevant information when I write the storyboard. Move the info into your content dump and color code it in the source doc. Write the storyboard and draft the job aids.

A sample.mp4 video that has been completed and ready to post to an online service (Camtasia PPT Green Screen Experiment). At this point I could decide whether or not I want to add say introductory slides. Fades, slides, those sorts of things are available as well. Storyboard or no storyboard?

Typically these notes are then reported in a spreadsheet, a Word doc, via email, or occasionally through a more robust tracking system. Developers can create template projects that contain slides with placeholders for various elements. All the SME or Instructional Designer needs to do is enter text and import slides/video.
