Twice a year I will be providing some trends that I am seeing in the e-learning market. This one trend really is an irritation to me, because the term “training” is showing up rather than “learning”, which is the standard term as it relates to online learning (see it already?).

124 vendors, inc. 1 of the 16 open source vendors that offers m-learning capabilities. 26/108 commercial vendors offer m-learning capabilities inc. Some vendors still output to Blackberry, which is struggling in the market, a couple output to old Windows Mobile OS, one outputs to Palm OS (which HP just nixed).

Small business is a very good market for them; but many offer pricing for SMB. Education, non-profit, association can be equally good markets for them. Segment as a whole is growing in terms of vendors. User pricing tends to start extremely low – most offer packages for “2 users&# “25 users&# and then go up.

After supplying my details, I was rewarded with the delivery of not so much a white paper as a 3-page pamphlet outlining a few simple (and somewhat helpful) "tips" for someone approaching their first mobile learning effort. Calling this effort a white paper is truly a stretch and a marketing ploy that falls far short of its intended mark.
