My latest LMS/LCMS directory provides a wealth of new information on 242 vendors. New columns – Does the vendor offer a trial? What social media platforms does the vendor use? If the vendor offers a trial, it will identify if known the length of the trial. Data Points. 20% offer a trial.

Web based training (WBT which was the term to define web based courses) – E-Learning. . Web conferencing – well it if is for a webinar – it is under e-learning. And yes, any document, including sticking your ebook online for learners to read would constitute online learning content. .

CBT Prior to online learning known then as WBT, and then the latter term of e-learning (vendors today, use it to refer to content that is online), there was CBT. CBT was the “new” and exciting way to learn. Then comes along AOL (did you know folks still have an AOL e-mail account? I used them).

I’m not saying that e-learning vendors who follow the “trial” and give us your credit card mantra are following this approach nor are they doing so in a nefarious way, I’m just giving you some insight in how companies that use this approach, see value in it. Just a guess here! Just being honest here.
