What is SAAS and why is hosted better than having it on your own servers. The bottom line without getting technical or overly detailed, the solution is hosted on your vendor’s servers and not hosted on your internal servers. Hosted solutions are the way to go in this day and age, for numerous reasons.

For whatever reason- okay to try to set themselves apart – some vendors have created the term “training management” Honestly, they could call it “online authoring system with a few reports and no frills” and it would be the same thing. Yeah, you can upload word docs, PPT, etc.

That said, there were some hiccups and from an entire vendor wise (expo here) angle, some unique and some, uh. Okay, before jumping in, I want to thank all those who attended my session, E-Learning 2020. . This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. .

There is a growing list of vendors, including small/mid size that are adding talent management components that match the Big Dog systems. A couple of vendors have added HRIS modules. It is interesting to note, that many of the vendors are targeting the SMB space, especially the small size (less than 500 employees) market.

Innovation abounded and the push to focus on the “PPT to Flash&# angle continued to shine. Sure, other vendors will say you can do that too, but you have to open each object file to get it. iPod, mobile phones, YouTube, message boards, e-mail. Import and convert PPT to the web, add rich media. Who has time?

They fail to even clearly show their product, let alone present the product sans the standard PPT intro that comes with “learn more” about the solution. Yet, for many vendors that objective, comes at a price, you have to talk to them. For many vendors it is all about the phone call. What They Need to Know.
