Lots of vendors, lots of potential. There were vendors that had nice LMSs and cool features. It just wasn’t me thinking this, I heard it from attendees and even other vendors who were trolling the floor. E-Learning has been minimal. I would estimate that there was a 60-40 split, still instructor led driven, but even a significant number of the ILT vendors were offering subsets or capabilities to turn their ILT into online via webinars or online courses.

How to choose the right LMS

The same thing applies to the learning management system market. The minus: vendors come out of the woodwork to tell you their system meets those needs. I mean if you say you need “e-commerce for 500 users, certificates, ability to add users to groups for courses”, that would cover about 550 systems. No vendor could say honestly that their system is the best for you, because they are missing a lot of information. Whichever sticks – is your vendor.

More goodies then in the past, but the vendor with the awesome monkeys – it was nearly impossible to get one – you had a better chance of allowing them to stick leeches on you, then getting one – what’s the point of marketing – if the product you want to show – yours – isn’t walking the floor with folks. Less vendors scanning people’s ID badges, which I found interesting.

The trends apply to both LMS/LCMS vendors. Extended Enterprise - Vendors are expanding into the wholesaler/reseller/affiliates/sales agent sector with their solutions. The note of interest is that it is occurring with all size of vendors, albeit the charge is being led by mid size vendors. Not all of the big dog vendors have entered this space, despite it being a huge revenue opportunity. and European vendors interestingly enough, do not follow suit.

The program had three areas of real concern to me, okay – really bothered me and from an e-learning perspective it is just hard to figure out why they would want to do this. You can upload the photo of the person (listed as trainer) for the course, which end users will see, their name and e-mail address.

Because those who were fortunate to attend the World of Learning Conference, everywhere they looked was a nugget of gold, especially those who used the dynamite technique of e-learning. While I am sure that occurred at WOLC, the ones I gazed at, which were presented by vendors, had no sales pitch whatsoever, rather it was all about a specific subject tied to e-learning.
