This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. . In all the years I have attended and have known about ATD (formally ASTD), this year is by far the most in terms of e-learning vendors, especially those in the LMS space.

Dozens of LMS vendors, had typos on their web pages, zero screens of the system, links that went nowhere and two kicked up my Firewall warning of possible privacy collection and one had a Trojan Horse (I use a hardcore firewall and A/V). It appears in the SAAS model with some small dog LMS vendors. on their server.

A: If the LMS is available only as a hosted solution – as on your company’s own servers – it may not. Even vendors who say their are browser agnostic, if you are using not a common browser – say Maxthon or Avant, check first. A: Depends on the vendor. The same issue happens in the states.

Additional benefit – if you leave and go to another LMS vendor, the courses you created are still on your server or the RCAT’s server and thus you can move them quickly and easily, rather than having your former LMS vendor involved, which sometimes can be painful . Save Money. Bottom Line.

Seems to focus more on client side server, when space as a whole is focused more on SaaS. I know Totara is going to say that the product is built on open source and the folks who are buying it know the technical aspects/Moodle and thus this isn’t an issue. Relies too much on Moodle architecture as in 80%. Welcome Home.

M-Learning – can view on tablets, including iPad. Cannot skin on the SaaS version and even if you host it on your own servers you have to do it via CSS code (this is not uncommon in the VLP market, but it still is a minus in book). Has a little bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, simple.

You work online via the servers of your vendor. I had thought that this trend would be dying out, but it is amazing at the number of vendors who are entering the space and still focused on the desktop approach. This eliminates that issue. SaaS: Software is in the cloud, on the internet. Everything is saved online.

Desktop or SAAS – i.e. you either dl the software and work on it on your desktop or your server OR you access the software in the “cloud&#. This is a big issue. If your RCAT only outputs to SCORM 2004 and my LMS vendor only accepts 1.2, E-Learning 24/7. won’t work. That said, many haven’t.
