Best of the Best – Extended Enterprise or multi-tenant LMSs

eLearning 24-7

Just because a system lists itself as an extended enterprise does not mean it comes with multiple domains (which with some vendors includes customized) nor with multiple portals or my preferable term – “multi-tenant” You may see an “extended enterprise” which not only refers to the company’s employees, but also their customers and channel partners. E xpertus One ($$$-$$$$)- Still the best multi-tenant platform in the market. E-Learning 24/7.

M-Learning: Where’s the app for that?

eLearning 24-7

With all these vendors talking about their solution and its capabilities on mobile devices, it should be easy to find an app for that. Regardless if the vendor is m-learning specific, content authoring tool, LMS, web conferencing or a hybrid. If your telling me your solution is mobile ready, then all I should need to do is go iTunes or Android and find your app. Nowadays more and more vendors (thankfully) are seeing the benefit of mobile devices.

There is a growing list of vendors, including small/mid size that are adding talent management components that match the Big Dog systems. A couple of vendors have added HRIS modules. It is interesting to note, that many of the vendors are targeting the SMB space, especially the small size (less than 500 employees) market. One Step Behind

Back in the day, a punk rock group called Madness released a wonderful tune called, “ One Step Beyond “, sadily if you were to look at the state of the e-learning industry as a whole today, perhaps the song should have been called, “One Step Behind&#. A LMS that came with a e-commerce, a chat room, discussion boards, front end look that did not appear to a be a LMS, library, bookstore (capability), art gallery (I used it for sponsorship purposes).

Vendors who added innovative features including text to speech (way to go SoftChalk), to true HTML5 support (Claro, Cm-Studio, Rapid Intake, Toolbook and sort of HTML5 output – Lectora) to image editors, SDK kits, gaming sims and Sony PSP devices. World of Learning Conference Review

eLearning 24-7

Because those who were fortunate to attend the World of Learning Conference, everywhere they looked was a nugget of gold, especially those who used the dynamite technique of e-learning. While I am sure that occurred at WOLC, the ones I gazed at, which were presented by vendors, had no sales pitch whatsoever, rather it was all about a specific subject tied to e-learning. Heck, one vendor I know even landed a massive deal right there at the show.
