The data shows that what many vendors assume end users want is far from accurate. Too many vendors are focusing on talent/performance management as the next feature/component in their systems.

They are similar to what you see in your standard LMS, course content, learning paths, reporting – but it is not as robust (which is fine for some end users). In the LMS world, you have nothing to fear or worry about when the LMS/TM system is acquired by someone else. The system will remain as is – we will never change. That the LMS they purchased six months or years ago, will remain the same (obviously updated though). Bandwidth Zombies.

One other interesting note, I have yet to see a LMS/LCMS that incorporates social bookmarking in their product. I know of only one LMS vendor Absorb that is on FourSquare. The LMS market is strong. But for all that is positive, there are negatives, and these negatives can hinder long term growth for commercial systems. Even more important, a learning management system was a new concept, so having to ask for X, when your budget has always been Y, isn’t an easy sell, especially when ROI is discussed.

Even if the product is a desktop product all you need to do is upload the course to your own web server, use the vendor’s web server or via a LMS. Yet as in the HTML5 case, online/offline synch is not able for the vast majority of learning platforms – especially in the LMS space. Let me be clear on this.
