I have seen systems on consumers’ servers have bandwidth problems especially if they do not have load backing. The note of interest is that it is occurring with all size of vendors, albeit the charge is being led by mid size vendors. I love Questionmark, its a wonderful product and it can use a “connector” to integrate into your learning platform or system. Greater increase in the number of learning management systems offering quiz/assessment tools. Considering the growth of authoring tools, learning platforms, even mobile platforms jumping into the assessment tool space with equal performance, it just seems to be moving down the opposite side of the bell curve. User Friendly or Hype?

The number one reason people leave their current system or purchase a different e-learning product? If I am a potential customer, I would expect nothing less to come out of the vendor’s mouth on their product and user friendliness. I have seen over 150 systems, 80 plus authoring tools, dozens of web conferencing products, mobile learning, quiz assessment tools, CMSs and learning portals, and not everyone of them meets those two statements. What I like about conferences is the ability to see the latest products and hear the pitches from the vendors. Yet, for all that do it, their are equal number of vendors who do not. Vendors who do not have anyone in their booth, during expo times – I see this at all shows, regardless of the product or market; but at e-learning/training shows you see it a lot OR you see them eating in their booth. The problem I have is when there are so many awards it becomes hard to distinguish, which solution is truly award worthy. Granted it does not include bloggers (I hand them out- more on that in a sec) or believe it or not – other vendors, but it is a nice list nevertheless. I have no problem with that. My problem is when the categories contain so many sub-categories or award x for this and x for that, it becomes over-saturation. E-Learning 24/7 Approach.

When it comes to the e-learning market, specifically the LMS space (and you can toss in LCMS, CMS, Learning Portals as well), there are a lot of traps that customers fall into and can’t get out. Sometimes it is a result of the vendor, other times it is a failure of due diligence on the part of the soon to be customer. The vendor’s salesperson tells you want you want to hear. Systems are starting to use the term to stipulate that their system provides a higher quality of mastery (learning) than anyone else. You want learning mastery? The problem with this trend is that it forces learners to do a checklist each day in the guise of boosting retention. I have those every weekend, so why as an adult learner do I want it as a benefit to learning?
