An API (Application Program Interface) enables an interface from a piece of software to communicate with another piece of software (in its simplest form) or multiple pieces of software (called a mashup). Twitter has APIs, so does Facebook, even Linkedin. Examples: Post your status update in Linkedin and it appears in Twitter.

In a market this size, and with so many vendors overly focused on the U.S. and not necessarily worldwide (which should be the case), there is bound to be those vendors who are seeking new opportunities. Folding up shop and switching to a new market: Talent/Performance Management, new product lines not tied to e-learning, services.

The fastest growing segment on Facebook is 55 to 65 year old women. The age range of people using social media is 35 to 54, with a college or post graduate degree. Time for these vendors to wake up, or see your audience share disappear. They do not want to jump into the water, for fear of the social learning shark.

Nowadays I think that the gig is up, and everyone realizes the scam. Surprises in E-Learning One of the biggest surprises, is that so many folks are unaware that e-learning was an umbrella term, as I noted in the History of the LMS post. Vendors use it to refer to online courses/content. Vendors who use it?

Bookmark feature is interesting, but with this one item – Saba’s past UI issues appear – too bad, it has an spin on the bookmark concept.epub file upload that worked, which is rarely seen in any file acceptance of other social learning systems and even the majority of e-learning solutions to begin with.

You can use either your own 3rd party content authoring tool and upload it into the “Cloud&# and then wherever you are, output either to your LMS, or onto Moodle or even WordPress (they have a plug in for that) OR place the course in Facebook or nearly any solution that accepts APIs. Game based learning. Mashups, Google charts.
