For example, there were several vendors making their debut – as in their solution – at DevLearn. Most of the times, when the person shows the card, and the vendor talks to them, it goes no where. ASTDTK14 zoomed into Vegas last week with about 60 vendors (est.) On the expo side, and I know ASTD Events are going to disagree with me (err, they already have via Linkedin), I wasn’t overly impressed on the number of vendors’ booths. Conferencing vendors – Were there any? Wi-Fi for booth vendors was horrible.

Even not having the card prior to arrival, but signing up online, gets you free internet. . Another one on the rise for LMS vendors and honestly, e-learning vendors as a whole. So rather than have the LMS look squished on a smartphone it now looks similar to the way it does online except smaller.

I mean if you say you need “e-commerce for 500 users, certificates, ability to add users to groups for courses”, that would cover about 550 systems. Write vendors’ names on pencils and throw them at the ceiling.

It is truly amazing on how vendors seem to think lots of stuff on the page, is the way to go and navigation is just a requirement. Secondly, a typically very common is the integration to the back end of the LMS – reports, tracking, etc. Why vendors still think this is not needed or used, makes no sense.

Sub-portal/child – should be a sub set of the main LMS, it is branded/skinned differently then the main system, so LMS vendors allow the header and footer to be changed in the sub-portal/child, but the parent’s main logo still appears. One of the ways vendors pull this off is by listing e-commerce as a feature.

Can add your own audio or use one of their audio tracks – which surprisingly were not bad, actually quite a few were good. Out of all the shows, this is the one show that brings the most decision makers, and yet the number of vendors here is not great. Equally surprising are the lack of LMS vendors. I am seeing an increase in the ability to send these files to fellow students (virtually non-existent in corporate systems) and the ability to track in the back end – how many times the file has been viewed and downloaded. A LMS that came with a e-commerce, a chat room, discussion boards, front end look that did not appear to a be a LMS, library, bookstore (capability), art gallery (I used it for sponsorship purposes). The vendor? There is no reason that streaming programming and in our case, learning from a platform is not being done.
