Saba Social is a very solid product, that despite a few hiccups and “huh&# moments, achieves what it sets out to do, provide a user friendly social experience. Graphical progress bar – basically less text or funky icons that only the vendor knows what is – example, a recall one vendor using a floppy disk to represent an online course. Confusing once you dive into the product – see below. Problems abound within the product – not bugs mind you, just poor processes (IMO). One of the features I do love about the product is the ability to drag and drop – yet this is the only screen you can do it from. Ability to play on the screen, rather than click Preview to do so – which is how the product is set up. e-mail content creator, rate, bookmark, post info. E-Learning 24/7.

Many products in the general market do not offer 64 bit but they still work in the 64 bit – by using the 32 bit driver. When I looked at the product, I immediately thought on the song by Snap – called Power! The product comes with. E-Learning 24/7.

The same thing applies to the learning management system market. Selecting a system takes a lot of time, a lot of commitment on your part (and group, if applicable) and yes, even cost – the amount of time x productivity x your salary wage/time spent to find a system. Ask your fellow colleagues – via Linkedin, Quora, etc. The minus: vendors come out of the woodwork to tell you their system meets those needs. Whichever sticks – is your vendor.

Assign x users to one group, assign “y” to another group – with each group having different courses, learning content, etc. The problem though is what should be universal standards – and for the vast majority are – there are still learning management systems that just fail to grasp that concept. ASTDTK14 zoomed into Vegas last week with about 60 vendors (est.) On the expo side, and I know ASTD Events are going to disagree with me (err, they already have via Linkedin), I wasn’t overly impressed on the number of vendors’ booths. Authoring tools vendors – pickings were slim, Adobe was present, so was Allen Interactions (Zebra Zapps), but no Articulate? Conferencing vendors – Were there any? Wi-Fi for booth vendors was horrible.

The trends apply to both LMS/LCMS vendors. Extended Enterprise - Vendors are expanding into the wholesaler/reseller/affiliates/sales agent sector with their solutions. The note of interest is that it is occurring with all size of vendors, albeit the charge is being led by mid size vendors.
