LMS Products of the Year 2010. A lot of great products out there this year, new updates and latest versions; new companies, new services and just some real innovation. I include Learning Portals, LCMSs, as part of the mix. The product is Flash based, which is nice, but lack of mobile optimization for the iPad.

Preview window can be seen in Chrome, IE, Firefox and Safari browsers, and when choosing preview will do so – based on your set criteria of what browser to do so (within the product). If you do not have or use IE, you can download a desktop version to build, sort of defeats the purpose of SaaS. E-Learning 24/7.

The ability to record audio in real time or post time makes a lot of sense and eliminates the need for using Audacity (albeit it is a wonderful and free product). There are more vendors who do not offer the ability to post – i.e. add audio afterwards it is quite amazing.

Go to the store and you will see the laptops and home desktops coming out with the 64 bit version home OS, better yet, there is a 64 bit browser for IE, which is slightly different than the regular IE browser. I only get products that support 64 bit. Many vendors support this. E-Learning 24/7. I have 64 bit.

When you hear the term “browser agnostic&# , what this means is that the product or solution will work on any browser. But with LMS vendors jumping into the mobile learning sector, at least in some cases, it may be a tad misleading. Or the beta versions of the browsers yet to be launched. Browser Agnostic.

The product comes in two flavors – a simple and a more robust. This version ($40/u/m) is geared towards the instructional designer/developer. It really doesn’t get any easier then using this product, but while it is not ideal as a standalone it is perfect as a component within your course. FIRST DOWN. Easy to use.

Just as in any industry there are people who lie or as we say “misrepresented” their product. I have run into the same issue – salespeople who say their product does A but in reality it does not. . Or they send the RFP after a discussion, but before seeing the product. It hurts everyone.

Choose quickly between a simple streamlined version and their advanced – IMO, I would use their advanced. One of the first vendors to include the video boxes on the home page, rather than just the text for course title, etc. Great educational learning management system. No Tin Can and thus no online/offline synch.
