In the webinar, I brought up how LMS vendors were themselves perpetuating the myth of the bad things of social media (which is a necessary component of social learning), so, rather than identify the facts and data to potential clients who are concerned about social media and thus social learning, they instead do not include it in their system.

If I have those skill sets, why would I want to be an administrator of a LMS, when I could work free-lance or in some other programming capacity? Anything that reduces calls into a company’s tech support (and thus lower the costs for that vendor’s customer support) will be incorportad. Social Learning.

E-Learn Info, my company, now offers 3 tiers of advisory services that can fit any budget. Each program is month to month and you can cancel at anytime. But, they still have a way to go.

Mobile Learning – yes you can view it on tablets and smartphones. Social Learning – No. Many people today prefer 3rd party authoring tools and in fact, I recommend that route rather then using a vendor’s built in authoring tool. Built in Content Authoring Tool – No. IMO, not a big deal.

You also can purchase instructor led courses from Microsoft to Adobe to Hardware and OS, programming, etc. Yes they offer some features for free, but the paid version looks exactly like any other social learning system that uses the FB like page. Thus you can have on-site training. BrainShark. Nothing that blew me away.

I believe it is because many of the vendors do not want their customers to have such power. After all, if you can create a couple of APIs that provide strong social learning functionality, and the LMS vendor offers an add-on for social learning, do they really want you to put yours in? And for free?
