When your LMS BFF is no longer

The big elephant in the room that we hear so many times and vendors love to pitch (to get you to their system), but rarely the vendors themselves will admit to – many have only themselves to blame. Sometimes, it is the client’s fault and sometimes it is the vendor’s fault. I know, I know it is never your fault (client) – its those nasty LMS vendors, but as with the failure to recognize, often more than not it is duality, at least at some level.

How to Buy a LMS

eLearning 24-7

LMS – Learning Management System – most commonly sought out by folks. LCMS – Learning Content Management System – going the way of the dodo bird. M-Learning- Mobile Learning. E-Learning – Online Learning. Many people confuse the term thinking it means electronic learning and thus will boost that they were doing e-learning 20 years ago or even longer. LRS – Learning Record Stores.

Break it down! (No it’s not Hammer Time! Yet)

I’ve also learned firsthand, how to make it work in any vertical and any industry. Learning Management Systems. Mobile learning platforms. Social learning platforms. If you want to track in a learning management system or learning platform that supports SCORM then you want it. May offer the ability to take a course via an e-mail link or twitter link or in another fashion. Why do some vendors have trials and others do not?

Psst. You wanna buy some features?

eLearning 24-7

LMS vendors are continuing to add some very unique features in an effort to set themselves apart from the competition. You don’t have to go to funkytown to see some feature sets that put the “WoW” back into learning. Built in E-mail that blocks viruses, spam plus you can send out of the LMS. Desktop sharing (appears with a few vendors). e-book publishing. Section 508 (still shocking at the lack of vendors that fail to offer this feature).

Before diving into our semi-annual, readers question and answer, I’d like to talk about a subject near and dear to me – acquisitions. In the past few months, many of you probably have noticed a slight uptick in to the number of vendors who have been acquired either by another vendor in the market, or outside of the e-learning space or even a Private Equity firm. From my experience, vendors do have some options. Learn Amp. E-Learning 24/7.
