Q&A from Blog Readers on E-Learning

eLearning 24-7

Q : I am curious on why Cornerstone On Demand, Saba and SumTotal do not appear in your top twenty lists even though they appear on other sites as the best products in the market. Every e-learning consulting/research firm, etc. My latest take on those three vendors (plus one) are: Cornerstone On Demand – I have seen the new UI and I like what I saw. That said, they are in my top 40 for learning/extended enterprise cloud. There is nothing like interaction.

Attention LMSs – I’m mad as…

eLearning 24-7

I’m tired of telling people that it is better to buy 3rd party courses through you even though they can get a better deal by going straight to the 3rd party vendor. #5 I’m calling out Saba. That’s right, Saba and their wonderful salesperson HSwidget (name withheld).

eLearning 24-7

They involved talent management, “hello and goodbye” with vendors, social learning, upswing in mobile learning, new feature sets in the authoring tool space, flat lining in web conferencing and standalone platforms. LMSs/LCMS/CMS/learning platforms in commercial and open space continued their presence. For the mobile learning space – it is a necessity. Smaller size vendors are now entering the foray. Social Learning.

LMSs, TMs and HCMs

If you visit the Taleo home page, you will learn the following two items. I must have been sleeping, but when did “learning” slide under Talent Management? When did “learning, which is training” become a defacto component of Talent Management? Better yet, when did “learning/training” become a component of Human Capital Management? It can easily change the world of e-learning upside down. E-Learning 24/7.

M-Learning: Where’s the app for that?

eLearning 24-7

With all these vendors talking about their solution and its capabilities on mobile devices, it should be easy to find an app for that. Regardless if the vendor is m-learning specific, content authoring tool, LMS, web conferencing or a hybrid. Nowadays more and more vendors (thankfully) are seeing the benefit of mobile devices. Thus they can advertise they offer mobile learning. Perhaps they even have a mobile learning feature within their system.

LMS Identify

You will not forget them when you view a demo, nor when you are looking at the company’s web site or literature. I often hear people say they want mobile learning in their solution, social learning, e-commerce, but when you ask for specifics they sometimes have a blank stare on their face. If you want an EE, you will want e-commerce. What about a payment gateway – does the LMS vendor assist you with this or do you have to find your own?

I include Learning Portals, LCMSs, as part of the mix. Big Dog (Saba, SumTotal, Plateau, Cornerstone OnDemand, Learn.com). Extended Enterprise – System must have e-comm, multi-tenet – fully skinnable, additional functionality. Saba. That said, across the board for all Big Dog systems, their social learning functionality was weak. Saba does a good job as well. You can also sell your Jackdraw courses in the e-comm marketplace.

E-Learning Trade Shows + Product Reviews 4 #TK11

What I like about conferences is the ability to see the latest products and hear the pitches from the vendors. Yet, for all that do it, their are equal number of vendors who do not. E-Learning Trade Shows. Vendors who do not have anyone in their booth, during expo times – I see this at all shows, regardless of the product or market; but at e-learning/training shows you see it a lot OR you see them eating in their booth. Award for all awards

Granted it does not include bloggers (I hand them out- more on that in a sec) or believe it or not – other vendors, but it is a nice list nevertheless. Nothing wrong with that, mind you, after all when a company or vendor wins such an award it makes for great advertising and marketing. There are a couple of ways that a firm, company, vendor or individual can win an award, depending on the organization that is selecting winners. E-Learning 24/7 Approach.

ATD2015 Conference Post – Review

That said, there were some hiccups and from an entire vendor wise (expo here) angle, some unique and some, uh. Okay, before jumping in, I want to thank all those who attended my session, E-Learning 2020. . I can honestly say, the ATD show is changing from ILT driven (it has always been that way) to e-learning improvement. This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. .

Review of #ASTD2014 International Conference and Expo

eLearning 24-7

Although after talking to several vendors, irritation seemed to be a part of their response to me. Estimate 55% e-learning related content, including e-learning vendors and ILT vendors who added a “virtual training” component as part of their offerings. To me, many more LMS vendors than in the past, especially some newbies I’ve never seen attend the show. Great to see Saba attend the event. E-Learning 24/7.
