The selection of an e-learning vendor can seem challenging. Maybe you don’t know what vendors can provide the exact product or service you need, or it might be that you aren’t even sure WHAT you need. My next few blog posts will give some tips I have found for selecting and working with vendors.

CBT Prior to online learning known then as WBT, and then the latter term of e-learning (vendors today, use it to refer to content that is online), there was CBT. CBT was the “new” and exciting way to learn. ILT (Instructor Led Training – Workplace, even EdTech – K-12 and Higher Education).

The tool can track your courses – if a standalone -. Publishing – Manifest ID, course type (lesson, survey, test, final exam, custom), mastery score, mastery score reached status (passed or completed), show feedback, make score equal to progress, allow course to be repeated when passed/failed/completed, show score when completed.

This past week I attended an Arena Football league game and came to realize there is a reason I never have been to one – I never heard of anybody nor did i enjoy the blasting of a semi like cannon after they scored a touchdown (which happens a lot). Actually it scored some of the loudest cheers and best of all no cannon fire.

Classroom management – attendance tracking is a plus. Most systems in the education space are still strongly focused on synchronous based learning. Learning exchange provides teachers will access to share over 25 million resources, projects, learning spaces, partnerships and tools. Basically the system rocks.

If you plan to track or have instructor led training, then this is relevant. Can you track the end users in it? Vendors who have partnerships with WebEx or whomever they use, typically require you to purchase a license, which is separate from the system. If you choose to use it, tracking is important. Event Management.

That said, you always score a better deal signing a one year deal. However, M2Ms are easier to pull out of – if u are unhappy with their service, compared to a vendor that you purchased licenses. You want to track who accepts and declines right? – Some vendors offer this (very rare though). E-Learning 24/7.
