Web conferercing continues to be hot, but it is not as easy as just selecting vendor x or y, rather to find the best solution, it is important to identify certain items and features before moving forward. . event management, e-commerce (if available), audio conferencing and how it works with web conferencing vendors, who is in the tablet space, and my personal picks. For the vendors who offer this option, they go about it in a couple of ways.

But what you rarely hear, is something I have often been hearing, which isn’t going from any spirit, rather it is coming from some LMS vendors. It is a sound so unbearable, a phrase or two so strange and misleading, you would think you were hearing it from… the salesperson’s mouth (or via e-mail). Any vendor who sees you as a potential customer, should go to your web site and grab the banner/header or colors and place it in your demo before you begin.

Low Cost LMSs – Yes, u can find one for under 10K

In the cloud or on your own servers. Low cost systems are typically SaaS based (then again, the LMS industry as a whole is more SaaS based than hosted on your servers). Some systems in this space include e-commerce at no additional charge. Any vendor, who includes a set storage fee, should be able to provide you a range of number of courses – with examples and video/audio files – if you plan to use them. Available as hosted or on your own servers.

What always stuns me are vendors who state they know what their learners want, but in reality have no clue, because they themselves do not see the technology and its usage among the masses. E-Mail. The growing number of businesses leaving Microsoft Outlook to Internet e-mail is amazing. Product Review: Articulate Storyline

For my instructional designers and e-learning developers, they loved creating courses. Layers and Conditions – if you have experience with Photoshop or similar products that use layers, then your learning curve is less. Learn more – great idea, but they failed at this too (more in a sec). “Upload your content to a web server, you just give your learners a link to the story.htm file” – This is to view the course in HTML5 on your iPad.

SaaS product – but here’s the thing – if you want the course to be in your LMS – it can but it still sits on the ZZ server side and not in your system (should note that the LMS connectivity is available only in the $40/u version). Although you could use the product as a separate video and publish to YouTube, Vivemo, one of their products, your desktop and I think the web (I admit, I forgot the last one, but you get the idea).

All they care about is whether the system is in “the cloud” SaaS or “in the cloud” to the consumer means that is it hosted on your servers or wherever you host your LMS and they can access it via the internet regardless of where they are located as long as they have an internet connection. If you offer the SaaS option and the consumer hosts it on their own server, fine. Web sites yes. Typically it is a faster fix than on your own servers.

There is a growing list of vendors, including small/mid size that are adding talent management components that match the Big Dog systems. A couple of vendors have added HRIS modules. It is interesting to note, that many of the vendors are targeting the SMB space, especially the small size (less than 500 employees) market. Latest E-Learning Trends – Some good, some bad

I mean ever&# , from a senior executive at a mid to large size vendor that has been in the market for several years. Across the board, a large number of vendors (from small to large) saw increases in their quarter numbers. Especially, when vendors released their 2010 final numbers and saw big increases from the previous year. A trend that is happening in the LMS market more so than in the other e-learning markets, is the failure to follow their path of success.

In a market this size, and with so many vendors overly focused on the U.S. and not necessarily worldwide (which should be the case), there is bound to be those vendors who are seeking new opportunities. If you wanted to work on creating content, for many people, the route would be and still is creating courses via a desktop based rapid e-learning authoring tool, or via your LMS/LCMS vendor’s tool (hosted or not) or via Dreamweaver or some other type of solution.

One of the irritants with RCATs and frankly many e-learning vendors in assessment and other groups, is that you have no idea what image format is acceptable, until you go into the select image function. That said, there were some hiccups and from an entire vendor wise (expo here) angle, some unique and some, uh. Okay, before jumping in, I want to thank all those who attended my session, E-Learning 2020. . I can honestly say, the ATD show is changing from ILT driven (it has always been that way) to e-learning improvement. This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. .

World of Learning Conference Review

Because those who were fortunate to attend the World of Learning Conference, everywhere they looked was a nugget of gold, especially those who used the dynamite technique of e-learning. While I am sure that occurred at WOLC, the ones I gazed at, which were presented by vendors, had no sales pitch whatsoever, rather it was all about a specific subject tied to e-learning. Heck, one vendor I know even landed a massive deal right there at the show.
