6 Ways Consumers Want to Learn

Learning in our everyday lives and learning in our professional lives have become very different from each other. Thanks to the internet, smartphones, social media, and all the other technological advances of our world, information is available anywhere and anytime. Consumers can access feedback, answers, and second opinions at the touch of a button.

In contrast, the professional world insists on training with long workshops, exhaustive lectures, and other outdated forms of teaching. The learners using your content are also consumers, and consumers are conditioned to learn the way the everyday world learns. If this disparity is addressed and the learning industry aligns its methods with how consumers want to learn, your content can become more effective, accessible, and popular.

So how do consumers want to learn? We examine this through 7 consumer realities in Treion Muller's ebook: 7 Consumer Realities That the Learning Industry Can No Longer Ignore.

Let's look at the first 6 realities now.

  1. I WANT IT NOW!

Smartphones have given consumers instant access to anything they could want; from communication to product comparisons. Naturally, consumers have developed the expectation that everything should be quickly accessible.

  1. I WANT IT TO THE POINT!

There is an endless selection of content available on the internet. If your content doesn’t get to the point fast enough, consumers will drop it for something more engaging. Keep it concise.

  1. IT HAS TO LOOK GOOD, AND WORK WELL, OR I’M DUMPING IT

The endless content selection not only has other concise options, it also has other good-looking options and other options that are very effective at their jobs. Consumers want content that is simple to use and appealing to look at.

  1. I DON’T WANT ALL THIS OTHER STUFF!

Consumers don’t want to go digging for the information they need. Give them what they need, and leave out all the excess they don’t. Make sure all the provided information is relevant to the purpose of your content.

  1. I WANT TO PAINT THE PICTURE!

Consumers want to be connected and involved, and they don’t want to miss out on anything. Whether this is through likes, posts, or communities, consumers want to be part of the picture!

  1. I WANT TO BE ENTERTAINED!

Consumers spend a considerable amount of time every day seeking entertainment. Your content may be helpful, but is it engaging? If it is enjoyable, consumers will stay with you instead of leaving in search of another option. Not only that, they might even come back.
