Using Analogies as Explanations

Association eLearning

Back in my high school Spanish class I struggled to learn a new verb form. It didn’t fit into the neat little list of “I,” “you,” “he,” “she,” “we,” and “they.” I had no clue what to do with it. Then someone informed me, “It’s basically ‘y’all.’ You use it when talking to several people at the same time.” Of course! It suddenly made sense. Dual OS or Teams of Teams?

Clark Quinn

I asked this question in the L&D Revolution LinkedIn group I have to support the Revolutionize L&D book , but thought I’d ask it here as well. And I’ve asked it before , but I have some new thoughts based upon thinking about McChrystal’s Team of Teams. Do we use a Dual Operating System (Dual OS), with hierarchy being used as a base to pull out teams for innovation, or do we go with a fully podular model?

We live in a world of full of distractions. How can we avoid being pulled in a thousand directions and continue to thrive? Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is on the rise. The SME Role in Course Development

The Learning Dispatch

What Does a Subject Matter Expert Do, Anyway? SMEs May or May Not Be Instructors. Subject matter expertise can be part and parcel of instructing. A K-12 teacher is both an instructor and an expert in their subject (like fifth-grade math); a college professor is often a subject matter expert (SME) first (researcher in genetics) and a teacher second; corporate trainers often spend years in the field and then transition to teaching newcomers.

Rethink Resilience

Training Industry

“We just need our people to just become more resilient.” This comment is likely written into the principles of your leadership framework and often repeated by senior leaders in town halls. I’ve found this phrase frequently echoed in mature organizations that are struggling to innovate or manage through change and in upstarts where there is still enthusiasm but people are working like crazy to make deadlines or lift a product or service out of creation and into the next development phase.
