Measuring Your Success. In other blog posts published previously, we’ve discussed the modern learner – who they are, and how we can best serve them. We know that as modern learners , we take responsibility for much of our learning by creating our own learning pathways , exploring content, and interacting with other learners. We are essentially curating our own blended learning campaigns , and we end up holding ourselves accountable for a lot of this learning that is taking place.

Is 2018 Going To Be a Step-Change Year for L&D?

Living in Learning

There is urgency to this step-change requirement that needs to address Moments of Need at the Point of Work when they manifest and where they manifest. Build Your Course for an Audience of One

LearnDash

Creating a course with various lessons, quizzes, and other elements for hundreds (maybe thousands) of people is a daunting task. There are an endless number of instructional design templates and theories that you can follow for building your course. Some are simple and other are a bit more complex. Every one of them is useful when applied properly. But as you go through these different frameworks it can sometimes be beneficial to think about this from a different perspective.

2018 Trajectories

Clark Quinn

Given my reflections on the past year, it’s worth thinking about the implications. What trajectories can we expect if the trends are extended? These are not predictions (as has been said, “never predict anything, particularly the future”). Instead, these are musings, and perhaps wishes for what could (even should ) occur. I mentioned an interest in AR and VR. I think these are definitely on the upswing.

Branch Out with 2017’s Top Branching Scenarios

eLearning Brothers

Branching scenarios are an eLearning staple—and for good reason! Scenarios are a great way to allow your learner to take a more active role in the learning. Developing your own branching scenario can feel intimidating if you’re new to eLearning development, and that’s why our template library is full of branching scenario templates. In our branching scenarios, users are presented with a scenario and need to make a choice how to proceed. Remediation is then given based on that choice.

Allegations of Sexual Harassment in the Workplace:  No, HR Didn’t Fail. WE did!

Sexual Harassment in the Workplace, in the News and in Hollywood. Right now, leaders are in a unique position to radically change their organizations, for the better. The events of the past six months have made it necessary: The accusations against Harvey Weinstein and others, followed by Time Magazine choosing the “Silence Breakers” as its Person of the Year, and the #MeToo movement on social media.

Training the Generations

Your Training Edge

We all know that our workforces are changing. But we do have the ability to reach out to all generations with our training and development. The Baby Boomers are not accepting retirement, Generation X is in full swing, and Generation Y is just entering the workforce. Before we talk about how to effectively train each group, let’s determine who’s who. Baby Boomers were generally born between 1946 and 1965 – in many organizations they are the executives.

Reflections on 2017

Clark Quinn

The end of the calendar year, although arbitrary, becomes a time for reflection. I looked back at my calendar to see what I’d done this past year, and it was an interesting review. Places I’ve been and things I’ve done point to some common themes. Such are the nature of reflections. One of the things I did was speak at a number of events. My messages have been pretty consistent along two core themes: doing learning better, and going beyond the course.

The Performance Improvement Blog

As I usually do at this time of year, I’ve selected five blog posts from the past year that seem to have had the most interest from readers. Two Things at Once - AT&T TV Commercial 2013 In the AT&T commercial above, a man asks a group of children, "What's better, doing two things at once or just one?" All the children yell, "Two!" The commercial ends with "It's not complicated. Doing two things at once is better." Except AT&T is wrong. It might seem better. But our cognitive abilities are not built to allow us to do two things at once. Hell, we often have a hard time doing one thing. (Or Or is this just me?)

Choice is Key in Learning

Association eLearning

I was in Girl Scouts when I was younger. And I have clear memories of the merit badge book. Each badge required me to do something different to earn it. Looking back, that book offered a lot of choices. I could pick which badge I wanted to work on and choose the activities that sounded best to me. Then I remembered that many organizations don’t offer their learners that choice. And those learners are adults.
