A Zoom Meeting or Zoom Webinar Training?

Before you start, you need to decide whether you are holding a Zoom meeting or a Zoom Webinar.  While the meeting and webinar training platforms offer similar features and functionality, they have some key differences.

Zoom webinars and pre-recorded webinars have become a significant way for people to communicate with one another.  And they are now a primary tool for delivering training remotely.  But Zoom webinars do have some limitations and aren’t the best way to train in specific situations.

Doing many webinars can become overwhelming and an inefficient way to train people.  Zoom webinar training can be very resource-intensive if you have to do many of them.  Not only do you need an instructor for live webinars, but you also need to have a producer.

Zoom Webinars Are Unsuitable For Some Types Of Training

While webinars are suitable for certain types of training, they’re a poor choice for others.  For example, procedural information or activities that need individual practice.  Such as onboarding, sales training, management development, and product knowledge.

Lack Of Learner Control And Convenience

One of the significant advantages of self-paced courses is the control and convenience for the learner.  Yet, in Zoom webinar training, the learner has no control over when it occurs or the pace of learning.

  • You can provide some specific guidance to participants by using the arrow tool. Or by typing in your comment.

  • If this requires using slides, pages, or images, prepare these in advance.

1.   Find a way to enable participants to engage early in the session.

  • Get them to use the raise hand indicator when you ask a straightforward question, “How many people had coffee this morning?”
  • Thumbs up on camera when you ask a question

2.   Don’t fill all the silence – use silence as a tool

  • Resist the temptation to answer your question every time

  • At the beginning of the session, let participants know that you’ll be asking them to speak. Tell them the speaking order.

4.   Use objects on camera, for example,

  • Ask attendees to write feedback on paper and hold it up to the camera. Or make it a game with a timer and include a prize.

  • Instructional games have been around for a long time. You can adapt many of them to use in Zoom webinar training sessions.  For example, “Who am I,” “Charades,” and “Picitonary.” Or “introduce your neighbor,” “top ten list of…..”, etc.
  • Give you audience control. For example, use a poll for attendees to indicate which topics they’d like you to expand upon.

People participate in Zoom webinars for the experience, not just the content.  And they remember the content more if the experience is engaging.
